How to Finally Feel Like You Are ENOUGH – With J Stamatelos

Today on the show we have the one, the only, J Stamatelos on the show. He’s a coach who focuses his work on those who battle with what he calls “anxious insecurity” – a chronic feeling of insecurity that causes us to feel like we’re “NEVER ENOUGH” and must a) achieve goals that “prove” our worth and/or b) hide ourselves until we have successfully become “ENOUGH.” Coming from an academic and professional background of domestic counter-terrorism and emergency response, he went through this anxious insecurity himself and is on a mission to help those going through a similar experience. He has a book coming out soon entitled “Enough” which explores this topic in depth. Speaking of “in depth”, that is exactly what this episode is and we dig into all of the following:

– How we get stuck in the vicious cycle of achievement, where we chase something thinking that it will make us happy (a job, a car, a girl), only to find that once we get “the thing” the feeling of “not being enough” does not in fact go away
– Why competition can be GREAT in certain situations, but we are currently living in a society where we are competing for what should be a basic need (belonging)
– How we can BREAK the vicious cycle of not feeling like we are enough
– The power of self-compassion (a concept which conflicts with traditional concepts of masculinity)
– Why we NEED to stop trying to fix emotional problems (like depression) with rational solutions (like exercise)
– Why despite BELONGING being one of our essential needs as human beings, the studies show that most of us have ZERO people in our lives who we can “rely on”
– Why our increasingly individualistic society goes against our social nature as human beings
– How we can create a relationship with ourselves that achieves our need for belonging
– Why being LESS critical of ourselves will actually lead to us achieving MORE

And SO much more…

Sit back, take a few DEEP breaths and Slow Down, Man… Enjoy!

(***Quick correction – in the podcast, J mentions that respondents in a study had an average of 3 people they could rely on in the 1980’s and zero now. But the actual stat is the mode, as opposed to the average***)
